May 12th

We met the bus driver outside the Hotel Zlaty Lev at 7:30am. We pass thru fields of yellow flowers, which I was told are yellow rape seed.

We arrive in Prague to pick up all the guests by 9am outside the Hotel Liliova. We had to park 1/4 mile away and walk in because all the roads were blocked due to the Marathon run being held through downtown Prague. Then all 13 ladies walked all the way back to the bus with all their luggage. Quite a sight!
We were all exhausted. The poor driver was almost crying, mumbling "catastrophy" over and over.

We drove back to Jablonec and some of us could not check into our rooms, because a soccer team took all the rooms to sleep for a few hours. So Gabi at our hotel, set up one of the conference rooms for us. She even brought us this wonderful desert called Quark served with coffee or water.

In the early afternoon a very nice family, whom we have know for a few several years now, showed up to show us their very special hand painted buttons and vases which everyone had the opportunity to purchase. It was quite a scene with everyone buying and having fun. They had a good sale and everyone was happy.

A few people needed to go to the grocery store for a few items, and some just wanted to have a look around at a foreign grocery store.

Then off to a visit to the glass jewelry museum in town to see the history and objects or beads, and jewelry. Such a wonderful collection on viewing.

And then Petra and Vladislav showed up to show us some beads they had found for us. There were several types of  vintage Italian lamp work, some pressed beads, some Czech lampwork, some seed beads and a few other beads for sale. That was lots of fun with everyone asking questions and seeing what they liked. Of course, J-ME zoomed straight in on the the Vintage Italian wedding cake beads.

And there were a few treasures we had more information about-  some special Vintage Nailheads just waiting for us in a basement . Such a great find! we will be finding out more about those tomorrow.

Finally, dinner next door at an Italian pizzeria. They serve more then just pizza, with lots of other yummy Italian dishes.

Most of us dragged ourselves to bed and were asleep by 9pm. We have to be ready for a very busy official first Tour day tomorrow.

J- Me and Guy are the owners of Wild Things Beads, a small family run import business specializing in Czech glass beads and buttons and finding the unusual to bring to their warehouse. They also run working bead tours to Jablonec and Hong Kong. Their warehouse is located deep in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Northern California, and can be reached by phone at (530)743 1339 or on the web at www.wildthingsbeads.com. They are also open by appointment at their warehouse.
